    A radiator is an essential part of your car engine, which need regular care and maintenance to function smoothly. It sits closer to the car engine and prevents the car from overheating. This blog will outline the common signs associated with a bad radiator, so you can fix the issue or replace it with the new one. 

    Overheating- The main function of the radiator is to prevent the car engine from overheating. But if you notice that your engine begins to overheat while driving, park your car at a safe location, turn it off, and allow it to cool down so no accident avoid is occurred. Then give a call to your local mechanic and get your car radiator inspected for an overheating radiator. 

    Coolant leak- This is another major sign of a failed or bad radiator. If you notice coolant leaks under your car, there may be an issue with the radiator. However, the coolant leaks may occur due to numerous causes, including a loose hose, a hole in the radiator, and an old radiator. You should get your car inspected by your local mechanic to find the root cause of the coolant leaks. 

    Low coolant levels- If you are constantly adding coolant to your radiator, there may be an issue with the radiator as well. It is happening because of the coolant leaks. Refilling the coolant very frequently is simply a waste of money and resource. Instead, bring your car to your local mechanic and get the issue fixed. In case the mechanic asks you to replace the radiator, then replace it with the new and updated one. 

    Fluid discoloration- Usually, the vehicle coolant appears bright green or yellow and, at times, pink or red. The coolant flows between the radiator and the coolant passage installed in the engine. When you have a bad radiator, the sludge and deposits contaminate the coolant and turn it into a rusty color. 

    Some valuable tips to prevent a radiator from getting bad

    So, when you have noticed the above signs, make sure you get your radiator replaced as quickly as possible. Though you can do a few things to prevent your radiator from going bad. 

    • Be sure you regularly change the coolant. 
    • Ensure your cooling system is free from all debris
    • The radiator cap should be in good condition, with no leaking 
    • The hoses are in good condition, and there is no leakage issue

    I appreciate you reminding me that coolant leaks under the car are a sign of a failing radiator. It would be better to have it checked out by the neighborhood mechanic because this could be caused by a variety of things. I’ll definitely tell my daughter to be on the lookout for this because she just bought a used automobile. If she needs assistance, I’ll be sure to look into vehicle radiator repair services.
